Unbelievable night.

There's really too much to comment on here before I collapse in sleep, but here's the essence of it though. In the morning, our guys did exactly what they needed to do - they got back at night.  We had 15 scoring chances and all fifteen made it back.  Then tonight it was all about racing - In the 'B' 200 Free Relay - we out-touch Wheaton by 0.01.  Then in the 500 Free, Teryn Solan holds off Korey Clement by 0.02.  50 Freestyle ?  Ryan Ortman gets his hand to the wall first by 0.02.  We started the night out 106 points down and we're emerging from it just 42 down.

Going into this season, I said my goal was to have breakout performances.  If we strung enough of them together we'd be in good shape and today we had some doozies.  Evan Weyrauch, our first swim of the meet, drops 22 seconds from his 500 Free time to go a 5:02 - not too shabby for one of our non-scorers.  Other big racies - Scott Pinter going under 58.0 breaststroke split - our 400 Medley Relay tying the school record with the nation's 10th fastest (for now) time, Kyle Drake setting new school records in the 200 IM and 100 Back AND breaking the CCIW Championship Record in the 100 back with a 50.72.

Speaking of Kyle, I'm going to gloat here a bit and say that I told him he could beat the reigning 100 back champion.  He didn't believe it, but after getting some help on his starts, I knew he could and he did - touching 3/10 ahead of Mike Firth.

Other stuff that was big tonight - getting five guys in the top eight of the 500 - not bad considering ten guys went sub 4:49 in the meet.  Seeing the pride of Teryn Solan's dad as he got to hand his son the medal for winning the 500 Free (Carthage tradition that we have parents hand out medals if we're fortunate enough to win an event).

All-in-all a great night.  Of course there's no rest though.  Tomorrow we've got 21 potential scoring swims.  Wheaton has 22.  Of the 21, a dozen are seeded top eight while Wheaton's got a whopping 15.  If things play out that way, we're looking at potentially giving up 35 points.  Whatever the case, we've got a meet on our hands for sure.  Just need to keep battling for four more sessions.
